Skill 8 - Alpha Stigma (Voluntary)

So this is the second level of Ryner's Alpha Stigma. It doesn't really have levels, but I'm breaking it up so it's a more interesting process. The third level will be magic duplication.

First, here's a run-down of how Alpha Stigma works.

This upgrade allows Ryner to activate those abilities at will, as opposed to needing a catalyst. Though any magic thrown in his way will still activate the reflexive mode. What's new about this is that Ryner can now analyze magical items and PEOPLE. Ryner has always had inklings of magical power in people. Now, he can SUPER SENSE it. And if he uses his Alpha Stigma, he will be able to tell whether it is a curse, enhancement or a latent power. Essentially if you are MADE OF MAGIC, Ryner will know and will also have a general idea of what type of magic you are made of. See the previous link for limitations on Alpha Stigma's abilities.

This also means that Ryner can undo spells launched his way/in front of him because he sees the structure well enough to undo it. Now, really complicated magic will naturally take longer to sort through so there is some leeway there as far as whether attacks connect and the like. Again, this does not apply to Personae magic, which I am classifying as GODLY and therefore beyond his power's reach.

And as said before, Ryner can analyze magical items and tell what makes them tick and what they're made of.

If you have something special about your character and magic that Ryner would notice, let me know below. Also, if there are things about your chara that you would rather he NOT notice or for some reason believe are beyond his abilities, let me know. In general, Ryner is discreet about what he knows and won't throw it in your face unless he REALLY REALLY doesn't trust you and considers you to be a threat. Or he's worried about you. o/

Yukio has a teeeeny tiny spark of latent demonic ability in him. It's super dormant though. Otherwise, he's completely human.

I have personal info in my stats and keyblade info here. Mostly Ven would be curious about what keyblades are made of and how, but...Ryner wouldn't be able to figure that out simply because I can't tell you because canon doesn't tell us. But yeah.

Aeris is Cetra and has a lot of like I CAN TALK TO THE PLANET/Spiritual/Shamansitic stuff going on. As well as her limit breaks.

Annnd Mukuro has like. A lot of weird. Abilities that aren't really magic but -- like, illusions. And stuff.

Mikage-the-human is a combination of transformation and illusion shaped by innate babydragon abilities, and powered by ~FEELINGS~ and Aather energy from games/unlocks. It'sssss probably not something he would be able to undo.

Illusions still have a structure to them and can probably still be analyzed. :|a To the extent of recognizing it's an illusion and/or interfering. Though depending on the complexity of the illusion, it might HURT like a son of a bitch, thanks to the power cap.

MITHOS IS MADE OF PURE MAGIC it is laid out pretty well in his stats and the posts they link to! NOTABLY: he hasn't taken the angel skill yet in their current thread so his body will have changed once more the next time they thread after that.

I would prefer it if Ryner did not explicitly detect that the transformations are bound up in his Exsphere or that the Exsphere is made of magic and dead souls! Since it's something Mithos finds highly uncomfortable and . . . it's also canonly pretty difficult to detect Exspheres, god knows why.

idk what/how much Ryner can sense so I'll just give a quick rundown and you can take whatever you need from it I guess 8|a

SO YES Syaoran is a clone created through magic. CLAMP sorta identifies three parts to a person: soul/memories, physical body, and "heart". Heart is like your ability to comprehend emotions and understand you are in pain etc. Only Syaoran's body and soul were copied and made of maaaagic, he was specifically created without a heart! He's also got directives in there to obey his creator and search for the feathers no matter what. Also possibly pretty adaptable because he can eat Fay's magic and use it for himself in canon...

His eye was damaged by a completely different person/spell in the form of a seal that's since lost its power and broken.

His 'heart' should be about the only thing without magic written all over it cuz it's the one he developed on his own :|a he originally had half of his original's heart through the seal but that was returned when the seal broke so \o/

In general he is totally a "real" person in the sense of having a genuine soul and feelings etc. just sort of created slightly differently :|a

Ryner would be able to detect the MADE OF MAGIC part since yes that would ping A LOT. Noooot sure if he can sense clone stuff though... He would also be able to pick up the magical programming, though he might not know exactly what the directives are. Just that something is there.

Yes, he can detect the magical eye seal since that also sounds like WHOA POWERFUL.

Probably can't sense any MAGIC DEVOURING POWAS though.

All that said, he will sense SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY DIFFERENT about Syaoran but probably won't ask to analyze anything but his eye without a good catalyst. Because he doesn't want to freak him out. And well, Alpha Stigma is VERY OBVIOUS when it is being used. |D

I'm not canon familiar for Ryner so I'm not sure :|a it would depend on if he can just sense that there is a spell or if he can actually work out the mechanics of the spell or what its purpose/goal is and that kind of thing I think...

The seal is now gone! So the most he could pick up are the remnants of it basically.

Okay, Ven. Ryner will be much more keyed into the NO DARKNESS WHATSOEVER AND MADE OF PURE LIGHT thing Ven's got going for him. Also, the magical similarities with Roxas. He will definitely ping as DIFFERENT.

As for the keyblade, Ryner would prooooooooobably be able to grasp a bit of its purpose as a metaphysical unlocking device. Also, more of the divine magic it's got going for it. But for sake of logic, we'll be wonky and say it's PART GODLY so total analysis is not possible. o/

PS what the similarity with Roxas actually is...actually, I can use Pascal's comment below as a shorthand to explaining. KH has a similar three-part thing going: body, soul, heart. The twins have different souls, and bodies composed of different substances (though physically identical. Ven's body is flesh and blood, Roxas' body is a magical construct made of darkness.) But two different instances of the same heart. Roxas' is dormant, Ven's isn't. So their connection is sort of a magical/emotional ansible. Though it would probably be difficult for even Ryner to sense Roxas' heart because technically it's a huge spoiler that he has one? Make of that what you wiiiiiill. I'm pretty sure the twins will put together their weird heart thing after the heartgame this weekend, so.

Also Mark is completely mundane human but I think you knew that already.

My guess would be no to cloning because that wasn't the purpose of the spell... but maybe yes to at least the "search out the feathers" thing since that was the specific purpose he was created to carry out? :|a? I think FWR's ability to control him was more just part of him being the creator than anything else since he ultimately resists that but never the feathers thing even when he's dying \:D/

And possibly just a sense that there is something kind if fundamental missing in the magic but not that it's specifically ~a heart~... ammm unsure.

For his eye it would just depend on whether or not you think Ryner could pick up a broken seal that's no longer active/functional/etc. 8|a

Oh yes Raven's heart is probably relevant here. The short version is that Raven is kind of a magic zombie. He is dead but he's kept alive by his blastia heart which is powered by his life energy. :|a His magical abilities (artes) are currently powered by it too, though he tries to avoid using them.

Idk if you want to go into the whole made-of-fonons, but he's definitely got the fonic artes, and he has a separate arte enhancement on his eyes.

I doubt it'll come up, but if Alize ever gets her songs for triggering the Invincible back, Ryner shouldn't be able to sense it as magic. I'm not quite sure what it is, really, but canon seems to treat it as a sort of sonar-based musical science developed to fight a war.

She's also going to have a mechanical leg rig from Automaton. I'm not sure if he'd be able to pick up magical residue from that (or if what Automaton does can even be classified as magical), but if you want him to instinctively know "that was made by a Persona", I'm cool with that.
