Memory 19: Kiefer's freedom in exchange for his own imprisonment, rejecting Sion's offer to free him

Memory goes here.

- This is from the time he ended up in jail.
- He's injured, but that's either a result of what happened before getting caught or getting tortured. o/
- Kiefer's sister is dead and she's been dead for a while. Good chance Roland has been keeping this information from Kiefer to use her. >|
- Kiefer thinks he knew this informational the entire time they were friends. Did he? He doesn't feel guilt here so... less likely.
- Has general issue with war and thinks would be better if he were not involved.
- Has requested Kiefer be released in exchange for him remaining in jail indefinitely. His connections with Roland government are obviously surprising to most people.
- Kiefer Knolls
- Kiefer says she got everyone killed, though he's not sure how. Being that she was imprisoned, betrayal is likely. This is also the FIRST time Aather!Ryner accepts that he was not responsible for their deaths.
- Tries to convince Kiefer he needs to stay because he is a monster while she, a human, deserves a chance. This earns him a kiss, which is VERY SURPRISING.
- She says his lack of motivation was why she thought she fell for him, but she later realized it was his kindness. She tells him he's not a monsters. Though surprised, he doesn't quite believe that.
- Tells her he wants to be King of Afternoon Naps.
- Sion thinks he's a fool for agreeing to this, but Ryner sees no difference from between kept in prison and being kept in the school.
- Though Sion offers him a tool to escape, Ryner does not want to jeopardize Sion's heroic legacy and rejects him. Sion has apparently become a war hero.
- Sion fears not being able to visit and says he's losing confidence in what he can do. This is very different from the young Sion he remembers on the school roof. He blames himself for the deaths of their friends. Sion tries to urge him into action with him.
- Believes if he stays in jail, he won't be able to influence things anymore. And he'll have time for his research.

What this means in Aather?

Most important, this memory tells Ryner he didn't kill his friends. This is very encouraging for his sanity. But he also knows that soon after this, Sion turned to allowing the Mad Hero to possess him in exchange for the power to save Roland. Ryner realizes part of Sion's reasoning behind this was the belief that he was the ONLY one to take action, especially since Ryner rejected working with him on numerous occasions. This makes Ryner consider what would've happened had he joined Sion earlier and adds another level onto his guilt for "abandoning" Sion while Sion's always saved him. It encourages him to offer more help to Sion here in Aather and remind him that he's here for him. Ryner is also happy he could help Kiefer. He's glad to know he could do good things through his being the tool of Roland.
