For Ryner/Night on Amethyst and Zero on Sterling.
I can't promise I'll do the "ask you questions" thing, but I might. It depends how much I stalk and whatnot.

Date: 2011-08-31 11:10 pm (UTC)But Pascal showed up and Ryner took a quick liking to him because Pascal represented most of the things Ryner admires in people as far as kind, selfless and eager to help. The one concern was of course Pascal's tendency to draw back in concern for others, such as his thing about not taking his memories around people. But Ryner also loved Pascal's thirst for knowledge and his belief that they could make things better because secretly Ryner loves this shit, even though he's a bit pessimistic about it actually happening.
Then of course, shit started going down and people started getting hurt and since Pascal is MUCH more empathetic than the rest of Amethyst, it kind of shook Ryner up and made him realize that his "all or nothing" scenario was not worth it. So like I said, now he's just trying to do both things at once: protect Amethyst but still try very hard to win. And while realizing Pascal felt helpless during the Three game, the consequence of giving Pascal free rein during the Jabberwock game has pretty much put Ryner back on protective mode with him. |D Mostly because he knows Pascal beats himself up when the team gets hurt so Ryner's new thing is to make sure NOBODY gets hurt as much as possible. :|b This includes him, although he will volunteer himself if he HAS to.
But overall, yes Ryner likes challenging Pascal's assertions because he likes seeing what Pascal comes up with in response. And Pascal, in general, is a very calming force for him because Pascal's derpiness usually puts him in a better mood. And Ryner now knows how to trigger it, which he tends to do to distract Pascal sometimes. Also because of how Pascal is, Ryner is much less likely to let him get away with faking "all rightness" than he'd be with others. He wants to help Pascal keep his determined spirits.
