Memory 27 - Trivial Neutral
Nov. 27th, 2011 01:57 pmMemory 27: Reunion with Germer
This is another one of those memories that I've going to be breaking into parts because it's complex and I'd rather have the two very heavy emotional impact aspects hit separately so I will be explaining what to take from this one.
Memory goes here.
I don't feel like retyping the entire format so start at the blue dot and end at "...sorry, I can't die yet." Also, any memories Ryner references are obviously not included.
What he learns?
- Him and Ferris exhausted from Sion working them to death
- They get attacked by knives while Ryner's trying to drag a sleeping Ferris home.
- Ferris tries to fight even while sleeping but Ryner gripes until she goes back to sleep.
- Steps into a magic trap but knows better than to activate it.
- Attacker is Germer Kleisrole. His teacher?
- She's throwing knives at him because she says she intends to kill him. But he doesn't believe her and trusts her implicitly.
- She calls him a "murdering monster."
- He's about to cover his eyes reflexively but stops. Her also words cause him to go into his usual self-fear and thoughts about death.
- He contemplates just letting her kill him.
- Just as Germer throws another knife at him he remembers Ferris' words about supporting him and tells Germer he can't die yet, as he dodges the knives. "Sorry, I can't die yet."
What this means in Aather?
This is a pretty big deal since it tells Ryner that even in a place as dangerous as back home, he has started to realize that his friends will always be there for him no matter what he is. And more importantly, that they don't want him to die. He has to survive for them, even if he believes he has no right to keep living. There are people who wouldn't be at peace if he were to just disappear. Now, there is a GREATER REASON behind this new sense of security, which he has not remembered yet. But for now the memory shows that Ryner came to this decision because he believes in his friend. This is a major step for Ryner in conquering his self-hate. It doesn't make him give up his belief that he is a danger to people and shouldn't have nice things, but it severely offsets his death wish mentality. He realizes he can't just take the easy way out.
This is also his first memory of his teacher Germer. :D It's obvious he has a lot of respect (and some fear) for her and cares for her dearly. He also believes she feels the same for him. So it does really upset him that she was trying to kill him for the same reasons as everyone else. :( But he can't help but think there was something more to it...
